Changes to government affecting Deaf Australians

Following the 7 September Federal election, there have been some changes to government. Those that are most relevant to Deaf Australia and the Deaf community are:

The Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) is now:

Department of Social Services (DSS).

Minister: Kevin Andrews MP
Assistant Minister: Senator Mitch Fifield
Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Social Services: Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells
The Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy is now:

Department of Communications.

Minister: Malcolm Turnbull MP
Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Communications: Paul Fletcher MP
The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) has been split into:

Department of Education

Minister: Christopher Pyne MP
Assistant Minister: Sussan Ley MP
Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Education: Senator Scott Ryan
and

Department of Employment.

Minister: Senator Eric Abetz
Assistant Minister: Luke Hartsuyker MP
Disability Employment Services that previously were under DEEWR are now part of:

Department of Human Services (DHS).

DHS is part of the Social Services portfolio.
Minister: Senator Marise Payne
