Deaf Australia appoints new CEO **Auslan video added**

Deaf Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Kyle Miers to the role of Deaf Australia Chief Executive Officer.

Mr Miers takes on this position after the incumbent Executive Officer, Ms Karen Lloyd AM, retired in February.
“I’m honoured to accept this position,” said Mr Miers, “and I will be proud to build on past Deaf Australia successes to keep the deaf community a strong one and advance the rights of deaf people Australia-wide.”
Mr Miers has a long affiliation with Deaf Australia, having served on the board of the organisation for 9 years and served as President for 5 years. He has shown strong commitment and passion for the organisation by continuing representing the organisation well after his retirement from the board.
“The Board of Deaf Australia is looking forward working with Mr Miers,” said Deaf Australia President Mr Todd Wright, “Mr Miers’ leadership and knowledge will be invaluable as we start this new chapter for the organisation.”
Mr Miers is currently employed with Deaf Children Australia as Manager, Community Relations. Prior to this, he served as interim manager of Victorian Council of Deaf People (now known as Deaf Victoria), interim CEO of Deaf Sports Australia, Outreach Manager, National Relay Service and Manager, ACT Deafness Resource Centre. He is also a current member of the Victorian Disability Advisory Council.
Mr Miers was also involved in the Australian Communication Consumers Action Network (ACCAN). working group and served as inaugural board member of ACCAN as well as the Australian Federation of Disability Organisations (AFDO).
He was instrumental in the establishment of World Federation of the Deaf, Oceania, and is currently its Secretary General, focusing on the needs and issues of Deaf people in the Pacific region.
