Sophie Li
Deaf Australian of the Year
Signhow founder and Advocate
Sophie Li, a Deaf entrepreneur and advocate, is being recognised for her leadership in developing SignHow, a community-driven online sign language dictionary.
Â
Signhow launched in August 2023, the platform has grown rapidly, reaching 3,000 users and expanding its sign library to over 6,500 signs. Sophie led the creation of the platform alongside a small deaf and hard of hearing team and organised successful community events, including Signing Parties in Brisbane and Melbourne.
Â
Her commitment to the Deaf community is further shown through partnerships with organisations and her efforts to include Syrian Sign Language to support refugees. Sophie’s work continues to bridge communication and foster inclusivity.
